Hermit CrabWhen someone mentions racing normally people think of track or horse racing, but hold the phone because I have a shocker for you!  Take all of the norms out of racing and replace them with the thought of crab racing.  You might think I have lost my mind but I am honestly telling the truth, Crickets Spirits Sports and Food in Melbourne host a crab race every Tuesday!

The National Crab Racing Association host hermit crab races called the Crabtucky on a weekly basis starting at 6:30pm sharp.  I know it may sound a little out of the ordinary but it is an event that you will have to experience all for yourself.  But if watching this blessed event does not do it for you then you can always enter the race, if you think you have it in you.

In order to enter the race you need to have the ability to pick out a winner.  The price of admission is free. Before the competition begins all the participants must pick their very own hermit crab from the tank and then give it a name.  The crabs will then be given a number and tattooed on their shells.  The race begins with all the crabs underneath a bowl in the middle of the track, then the bowl is removed and the first crab to cross the yellow ring wins.  Since there are so many heats, there are at least 12 to 14 races before a true champion is crowned.  The winning crab’s owner gets to choose from a group of sealed envelopes in order to claim their prize money from anywhere between $10 and $100.

So if you think that you have the talent to spot a winning crab, then come out to Crickets tonight for the race of the century!  The restaurant is only minutes from Polo Glen Apartments!
